Gays in the Military, National Coming Out Day Speech

Denny Meyer, lifetime rights activist, editor of Gay Military Signal and President of American Veterans For Equal Rights NY, will speak on Gays in the Military. Meyer, 60, has spent the past 40 years speaking out for Black civil rights, gay rights, women's rights, transgender rights, and the rights of Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender volunteers to serve openly in Pride in America's armed forces. Meyer served for a decade in the US Navy and Army as a Sgt First Class. He is Veterans Affairs and Public Affairs officer of the national LGBT veterans association, American Veterans For Equal Rights, and serves on the Board of Military Equality Alliance.

Meyer, known as Sgt Denny, will describe the history of gays in the military from the American Revolution onward, Coming Out in the 1960s, Serving in Silence as a gay man in America's armed forces, and how Americans who believe in freedom can assert their values of equality and rights for all on public policy. (a reception will follow the speech).
